We encourage interested singers in all voice groups to get in touch.

We are currently looking for sopranos and altos.

If you want to stay up-to-date on voice-part availability, contact us to be added to our waiting list, or alternatively sign up to our occasional newsletter at the bottom of this page.

We rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Leeds Minster
(Kirkgate, Leeds, LS2 7DJ)

There is free parking within the Minster grounds, and we sometimes go to the pub next door after rehearsal for a choir social.

We invite new singers to try us out for a few weeks and get to know us (we’re nice), before taking an informal audition (details below). Our membership fees are reasonable, and we offer a discounted rate for students.

Commitment

We perform 6-7 concerts per season, to an exceptional standard, in the Leeds and West Yorkshire area. We mainly perform in churches, where the acoustic and scale of the venues suit our choral sound.

We expect a high level of attendance at rehearsals (Tuesday evenings at Leeds Minster, 7.30-9.30pm) and appreciate clarity of availability for concerts well in advance.

What you bring to the Guild

Experience in singing a cappella choral music is a must. Our members come from many different musical backgrounds but share a passion for vibrant, unaccompanied music-making.

An ability to sight-sing is also essential. Our rehearsals are fast-paced and cover huge amounts of music each term. You don’t have to be able to sing your line perfectly first time, but it will help if you’re skilled at picking up new music quickly.

A significant part of our repertoire is drawn from the Christian tradition but we welcome people of all faiths and beliefs. We thrive on respect and kindness towards each other’s individual circumstances.

What the Guild gives back

  • A supportive, energetic and fun social experience.

  • A fulfilling process that leads to high quality live music-making for appreciative, loyal audiences

  • An opportunity to sing a surprisingly large amount of Central- and Eastern-European choral music as well as pieces from further afield and closer to home

The audition process

The Guild is an auditioned choir, but this doesn’t have to be scary. After you’ve attended a few rehearsals with us and you’re ready to go ahead, we’ll arrange an audition at the end of one of our normal Tuesday rehearsals.

In the audition, our Musical Director will give you a short piece of sight-singing, and do some vocal range exercises, to make sure you’re in the right voice part.

There’s nothing to prepare and nothing to worry about!
